Tablet Error 301 - Failed Device Message
Error 301 occurs when the master controller tries to send a command to a specific module (like a valve or a pump) but the message fails to deliver.
Why am I getting this error?
Section titled “Why am I getting this error?”You will receive Error 301 when the master controller is unable to successfully "talk" to a module on the system. This is essentially an outgoing communication failure. Because the command didn't go through, this error is typically followed immediately by Error 302 and Error 401.
How do I resolve this error?
Section titled “How do I resolve this error?”1. Monitor Mixmate Voltage
Section titled “1. Monitor Mixmate Voltage”Communication messages can fail if the system voltage is too low to power the chips inside the modules — this is especially common for a module located far from the Power Module, where wiring resistance causes more voltage drop under load. Check the voltage on your tablet; if it is below 12.3V, the system may be unstable — see Power Check for the full procedure.
2. Check CAN Bus Resistance

3. Verify Configuration
Section titled “3. Verify Configuration”If power and CAN bus resistance both check out, look at a mismatch between the tablet configuration for the machine and the actual physical hardware — the most frequent cause for this error. If the tablet software expects to find a specific device (like a 3rd flowmeter or an extra valve) that isn't physically present or powered on, it will throw a 301 when it tries to communicate with it.
Use Diagnostics Mode: This is the best way to pinpoint the problem. Navigate to Diagnostics Mode (Manual Mode tab > select your machine > Diagnostics Mode tab) and activate each hardware item one at a time. When the error pops up, you have found the specific part that is misconfigured or disconnected.
4. Basic Troubleshooting Steps
Section titled “4. Basic Troubleshooting Steps”If power, CAN bus resistance, and configuration all check out:
Reboot the Mixmate: Power the system off and back on to refresh the master controller's connection list.
Check All Cables: Ensure all plugs are seated firmly and are free of corrosion or moisture.
