My 2.5 gallon jug doesn’t measure 2.5 gallons, how do I fix this?

FAQ: My 2.5-gallon jug doesn’t measure 2.5 gallons—how do I fix this?

It can be frustrating when you pour a known container size into the inductor and the Mixmate displays a different volume. Because Mixmate calculates volume based on weight, a discrepancy usually means the system's "math" needs a slight adjustment to match that specific product.

There are two ways to resolve this:

1. Run the Inductor Calibration Wizard

If your measurements are off consistently across different products, you should recalibrate the physical scale of the inductor. This is most accurately done using a 5-gallon measuring vessel filled with water.

How to Calibrate:

  1. Navigate to Manual Mode on your tablet.

  2. Locate and select the Inductor Calibration Wizard.

  3. Follow the on-screen prompts:

    • The system will ask for a "Zero" or "Tare" weight (ensure the inductor is empty and clean).

    • Carefully pour exactly 5 gallons of water from a certified measuring vessel into the inductor.

    • The Mixmate will associate that specific weight with 5 gallons, setting the new calibration factor.

2. Adjust Product Density (Most Common)

If the scale is accurate for water but a specific chemical consistently shows the wrong volume, the Density (pounds per gallon) assigned to that product in the app needs to be updated. You can "teach" the Mixmate the correct density by using the percentage the reading is off.

The Correction Formula:

Example:

  • You poured a 2.5 gallon jug.

  • The Mixmate showed 2.35 gallons.

  • Your current density setting is 8.35 lb/gal.

  • The Math: (2.35 / 2.5) x 8.35 = 7.849

Action: Update that product’s density to 7.849 in the Data > Products menu. The next time you pour a jug, the volume will match perfectly.
